Bio

Emilia Márquez (Uruguay, 1997) is a dancer, performer, teacher, and performance maker based in Spain since 2024. Her practice moves between contemporary dance, theatricality, and interdisciplinary creation, investigating the body as a space of transformation, fiction, and displacement. She works through intuitive methodologies that sustain the singularity of the creative process, exploring physicality, humor, vulnerability, and the tensions between the everyday and the fictional.

She holds a degree in Dance from the University of the Republic (UDELAR) and from the National School of Dance of SODRE (Uruguay), specializing in Contemporary Dance. She has furthered her training through various scholarship-based programs, including the Réves Contemporary Training Program (Costa Rica, 2019–2020), El Cruce (Uruguay, 2020), and the Descalzinha Danza professional training program (Madrid, 2024-2025).

As a creator and choreographer, she has developed several solo works: Pelotuda (2023), presented in the Me, Myself and I cycle at Centro Cultural Conde Duque (Madrid) and at the Festival de Jóvenes Creadores del SODRE (Sala Hugo Balzo, Montevideo); Soy muchas (2024), premiered at the University of Arts of Montevideo; YAWN (2025), developed in residency with Cía La Colé (Teatro Pradillo, Madrid); and Willful Ignorance (2025), presented at Sala Niessen (Errenteria), within the Open Rehearsals cycle at Teatro Victoria Eugenia (San Sebastián), and in the Derivas del cuerpo cycle (Sala Usina, Madrid).

As a performer, she has worked with Andrea Arobba (Epifanía, 2022, Montevideo), Verónica Anzalone (Water has something to teach us about being together, 2022, Montevideo), and Esther Rodríguez Barbero / Cía La Colé (Silver beasts shine where the horizon bends, 2024, Madrid).

Since 2021, she has been part of the collective POLÉMICA (Uruguay), with whom she has developed an ongoing collective creative practice through works such as Show Show Show (2021), Everything I Couldn’t Tell You (2022–2023), and No todo esto es una contradicción (2022–ongoing). These works have been presented at Festival Nexo (2021), the International Contemporary Dance Festival of Uruguay (2022), and the No Tan Solos al Mediodía cycle at Teatro Solís (2023).

Since the beginning of her career, she has combined artistic creation with independent production. She was part of the production team at FIDCU (2021 and 2023) and is a member of the EMERGEN collective, through which she has produced the EMERGEN Emerging Dance Encounters in Rocha, Uruguay, supported by the National Culture Grants Program (2020) and the Regional Culture Funds (2023).
