Emilia Márquez

Collage appears in Emilia’s practice as an extension of her research on the body, estrangement, and the construction of fiction. She is interested in collage as a tool for composition and thinking, where heterogeneous fragments coexist without hierarchy and generate new associations between image, text, and matter. These compositions do not seek a hegemonic organization, but rather strange, queer, and diffuse forms of relation between elements. This approach is directly linked to her performative work, where montage, discontinuity, and layering operate as creative strategies.

Her approach to collage emerges from an intuitive and manual logic, exploring the intersection between the visual and the performative, as well as the relationship between personal archives, industrial magazines, and found materials. Collage allows her to displace the stage into other supports, expanding her practice beyond the live body.

In 2022 she created the album cover for Balcones by Pascual Márquez. In 2025 she created the cover for TERO TERO by Bruno y Gasty.

​

In 2025 she exhibited a series of collages at La Cabra en el Tejado and Benteveo Bar (Madrid), under the title The Collages Make Themselves: Between Here and There, where she continues developing her research on fragmentation, migration, and belonging.

​

Parallely, she regularly participates in fairs and independent circulation spaces between Montevideo, Madrid, and San Sebastián, where she activates her work in more accessible and direct formats. These contexts engage with a heterogeneous and situated practice, shaped by different territories, audiences, and conditions of presentation.
